Microneedling in Singapore: RF Treatment Explained

Microneedling in Singapore may refer to conventional needle treatment or RF microneedling, which adds radiofrequency energy. They are different procedures. This guide explains the distinction and how I assess RF for selected acne scars, uneven texture, visible pores and other skin concerns.
I provide Secret RF and Infini at The Clifford Clinic in Singapore. Before choosing either, I assess the skin, previous treatment and the result you hope to achieve. A person with tethered scars needs a different discussion from someone mainly concerned about pores or mild laxity.

The services discussed here are the RF systems Secret RF and Infini. The table explains conventional needling for comparison; it is not a separate service offer. What is radiofrequency microneedling?
During RF microneedling, fine needles enter the skin and deliver radiofrequency energy. Needle penetration creates small injuries, while the RF produces local heating. These effects stimulate a repair response and gradual tissue remodelling. [1]
RF microneedling is also different from a laser, which uses light, and surface RF, which delivers energy without this microneedle arrangement. The names should not be treated as interchangeable.
The immediate appearance after treatment is not the final result. Swelling can temporarily change how the skin looks, while remodelling develops over the following weeks and months.
What can RF microneedling help with?
The examination matters more than the name on the treatment menu. Several concerns can look similar in a photograph but need different care.

Clinical research supports a role for RF microneedling in several indications, but treatment systems and study methods vary. [1] I set expectations for the particular concern instead of promising that one course will address every item in the table.
RF microneedling for acne scars
RF can be useful for selected depressed scars, but the scar pattern changes the plan. A tethered depression may need release, while a narrow ice-pick scar may call for a focal treatment. RF alone does not replace every other scar procedure. A 2025 review found encouraging acne-scar results across 16 studies, while calling for better evidence on treatment parameters. [2]

How I decide whether RF microneedling suits you
I start with the main concern: active breakouts, scar texture, visible pores, fine lines, laxity or pigmentation. I examine the area and ask what has already been tried, how the skin recovered and whether you have had prolonged redness, pigmentation or scarring after an earlier procedure.
Your skin tone, medical history, medicines, current skincare and previous treatments all matter. Tell me about active rashes or infections, unusual scarring, implanted medical devices, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and current or recent isotretinoin use. These can change the assessment or timing.
There are three common decision points:
- Texture is the main concern: we discuss whether the likely benefit justifies the course, discomfort and recovery.
- Scars remain tethered or very narrow: I consider whether a focal scar treatment is needed alongside, or before, broader resurfacing.
- Pigmentation or active skin disease dominates: the first step may be treating that condition rather than proceeding with RF.
A treatment plan should also fit the time you can allow for recovery. A setting chosen to meet an event deadline is not a substitute for a suitable clinical plan.
RF microneedling in Asian and darker skin
People with Asian skin have different skin tones, sensitivities and pigmentation histories. I assess those differences rather than use one setting for everyone.
A review of RF treatments in darker skin found generally favourable outcomes but also reported pigmentation changes and limitations in the evidence. [3] Insulation and controlled delivery can help shape where energy acts; they do not remove all risk.
I consider the treatment area, skin thickness, depth, energy, pulse duration, needle configuration and previous reactions together. More aggressive treatment is not automatically better. Secret RF or Infini: how I choose
These are the two RF microneedling devices I provide. My choice reflects the skin and treatment goal, including the actual handpiece and cartridge being used.

What happens during an appointment?
I consult and perform treatment at The Clifford Clinic. The consultation establishes the treatment area, alternatives, expected recovery and cost. Bring the names of your medicines and recent procedures, including any treatment performed elsewhere.
The skin is prepared, topical anaesthetic may be used, and the selected RF handpiece is applied to the planned area. Treatment depth and energy can vary across that area; a cheek scar and a thin area of skin do not necessarily need the same approach.
Afterwards, you receive instructions for cleansing, moisturising, sun protection and restarting active skincare. Follow those instructions rather than add exfoliants or strong serums because the skin feels rough. Contact the clinic if the recovery differs from what was explained.
Downtime, results and repeat sessions
Redness, swelling, tenderness, pinpoint bleeding or temporary crusting can occur. Some people resume their usual activities quickly; visible recovery can last longer depending on the treatment and individual response. Plan around the expected recovery rather than assume there will be no downtime.

Before-and-after results: how to judge improvement
Compare photographs taken in similar lighting, with the same angle, expression and camera distance. Early swelling can temporarily soften a scar’s appearance, so the time since the last session matters. Ask how many sessions were performed and whether lasers, subcision, injectables or other treatments contributed to the result.
A useful review considers the original concern, new symptoms and whether another session is likely to add enough benefit. Results vary, and a photograph of one person’s improvement cannot predict yours. Some goals also need ongoing care.

Side effects and reasons to defer treatment
Alongside temporary reactions, RF microneedling can cause burns, pigment changes, infection and scarring. The FDA has also reported fat loss and nerve injury with certain uses. [4] These risks make the exact treatment area, technique and individual assessment important.
Active infection, an uncontrolled skin flare or incomplete healing may change the timing. Other medical issues need a procedure-specific assessment; a general website list cannot determine suitability.
Seek prompt review for worsening pain, blistering, spreading redness, discharge, persistent altered sensation or an unexpected contour change. Do not wait for the next routine session if you are concerned that the skin is not healing normally.
RF microneedling price in Singapore
My full-face Secret RF treatment fee is shown below. The price is per session, not for the whole course.

At this session rate, two to four sessions amount to S$3,270–S$6,540 including GST. That is a treatment-fee estimate calculated from the session price, not a package offer or a guarantee of the course you will need.
For Infini, please request a current quotation. The assessment determines the area, number of sessions and whether any other procedures are appropriate.
Before booking, ask the clinic to confirm the complete quotation, including whether consultation, anaesthetic, medicines and aftercare are included or charged separately. Any additional laser or injectable treatment should be identified clearly. Comparing one RF session with a multi-treatment scar package can otherwise give a misleading impression of cost.
Frequently asked questions
Is RF microneedling painful?
You may feel heat, pressure or discomfort despite topical anaesthetic. Sensation varies with the area and treatment. Tell the treating doctor if it becomes difficult to tolerate so the treatment can be reassessed.
Is RF better than ordinary microneedling?
RF adds controlled heating to needle treatment. Whether that additional effect is worthwhile depends on the concern, evidence, cost and recovery. It does not make RF the better choice for every person.
Can it cause pigmentation or fat loss?
Both have been reported. The risks depend on the procedure and person, and are part of the assessment. Darker skin can still be treated in selected cases, but no device or needle design guarantees a risk-free result. [3,4]
Will RF microneedling remove all my acne scars?
No treatment guarantees complete scar removal. Some scars need a combination approach, and the expected degree of improvement is discussed after examination. The goal is a meaningful improvement in the concern being treated.
Can I have it if I still get acne?
Ongoing acne needs its own assessment. I may include a procedure in a wider plan for selected patients, but that is different from treating across every inflamed lesion or assuming scar treatment will control acne. See how I assess acne treatment for that discussion.
